Keikhosrow Shahrokh

Keikhosrow Shahrokh (Persian: کیخسرو شاهرخ) was an important figure in Iranian history. He was born in 1864 in Kerman, which was then called Persia. He passed away in 1939. Shahrokh is famous for designing the beautiful tomb, or mausoleum, for the beloved Persian poet Ferdowsi. This tomb is located in the city of Tus. Many people believe he helped start a strong feeling of national pride in Iran. This movement happened during the time of the Pahlavi dynasty.

A Champion for Iranian Pride

Keikhosrow Shahrokh worked hard to bring back a sense of "Aryan" pride in Iran. He helped dig up ancient items and treasures near the city of Kerman. These discoveries showed the long and rich history of Iran.

He was also a member of Iran's Revival Party. During his time with this party, he gave many speeches and held rallies. These events took place in cities like Shiraz, Kerman, and Tehran. His goal was to make people feel more proud of being Iranian.

Shahrokh in Parliament

Shahrokh was chosen to represent the Zoroastrian community in the Iranian parliament. This was a very important role. He actively worked to improve his country.

One of his most well-known achievements happened in 1925. He played a key part in changing Iran's official calendar. Before this, Iran used the Islamic calendar, known as Hejri Ghamarei. Shahrokh helped change it to the Iranian civil calendar. This new calendar is also called Hejri shamsi.

Roots and Family Connections

Shahrokh often said his strong pride in his Persian heritage came from his hometown, Kerman. He believed Kerman had kept its unique culture for thousands of years. This was partly because of natural barriers like the Lut desert and nearby mountains.

Keikhosrow Shahrokh was also related to Dinshah Irani. Dinshah Irani was a lawyer from India. He helped Zoroastrian communities in both India and Iran. Shahrokh and Irani shared an ancestor from the late 1700s. Most of this ancestor's children moved to India, and Dinshah Irani's family came from them. Shahrokh's family came from an older son who stayed in Iran.
