The national flag of Armenia is also known as the Armenian Tricolor. It has three horizontal bands, each the same width. The top band is red, the middle is blue, and the bottom is orange. This flag is a very important symbol for the country of Armenia.

The first modern national flag of Armenia was designed in 1885 by a person named Ghevont Alishan. The flag we see today was officially chosen by the Armenian Supreme Council on August 24, 1990. Later, on June 15, 2006, the Armenian Parliament passed a special Law about the National Flag of Armenia. This law helps protect and define how the flag should be used.

History of the Armenian Flag

The idea of a three-colored flag for Armenia has a long history. Different versions of a tricolor flag were used even before the current one. These flags often had colors like red, blue, and yellow, or red, green, and blue.

Early Designs and Meanings

The colors on the Armenian flag are very meaningful. While the exact meaning can vary, red often stands for the Armenian Highlands, the Armenian people's struggle for survival, and their faith. Blue often represents the sky, hope, and peace. Orange is usually seen as a symbol of the creative talent and hard work of the Armenian people.

Modern Flag Adoption

After Armenia became an independent country, it was important to choose a national flag. The current design was officially adopted in 1990. This flag is a strong symbol of Armenia's independence and its national identity. It flies proudly over government buildings and is seen at many national events.

Using the Flag

The Armenian flag is used in many different places. You can see it at government offices, schools, and during national holidays. It is also flown by Armenian citizens to show their pride in their country.

Flag Etiquette and Law

The Law on the National Flag of Armenia, passed in 2006, sets rules for how the flag should be treated. It ensures that the flag is respected and displayed correctly. This law helps everyone understand the importance of the flag as a national symbol.
