About Flavia Blois

Early Life and Art Studies

Flavia Blois was born in a place called Cockfield Hall in Yoxford, Suffolk, England. Her family was well-known. Her father was Sir Ralph Barrett MacNaghten Blois, and her mother was Winifred Grace Blois.

Flavia loved art from a young age. She moved to London to study painting. First, she attended the Chelsea School of Art. After that, she continued her studies at the Euston Road School.

Becoming a Landscape Artist

In 1939 and 1940, Flavia Blois studied art in Paris, France. When she returned, she decided to focus on painting landscapes. She also enjoyed painting scenes of city streets.

Flavia painted many landscapes of the countryside in East Anglia. She often made quick ink notes outdoors. Then, she would go back to her studio and create her oil paintings.

Her artwork was shown in many important places. She regularly exhibited her paintings at the Royal Academy of Arts. She also showed her work with the London Group and the New English Art Club. During her career, Flavia had three special art shows just for her work.

Family Life and Later Years

In 1948, Flavia Blois married Julian Snow. He was a politician who represented the Labour Party. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called Lichfield and Tamworth.

Later, in 1970, Julian Snow became a Life peer. This meant he was given a special title, Baron Burntwood, for his lifetime. Flavia then became known as Baroness Burntwood.

Flavia Blois passed away in 1980 in Westminster, which is in central London. Her paintings continue to be remembered and appreciated.
