Fleetwood is a small, unincorporated community located in Jefferson County, Oklahoma, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place with people living there, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
Where is Fleetwood?
Fleetwood is found about 25 driving miles (which is about 40 kilometers) south-southeast of Waurika. Waurika is the "county seat," meaning it's the main town where the county government offices are located. Fleetwood is also situated just east of a major road called US Route 81.
How Fleetwood Got Its Name
The community of Fleetwood was named after a person named H.H. Fleetwood. He was a "ferry operator" on the Red River. A ferry operator used to run a special boat that carried people, animals, and wagons across a river when there wasn't a bridge.
Fleetwood's Post Office
For many years, Fleetwood had its own post office. This post office was open from 1885 until 1961. Having a post office was very important for communities back then, as it was the main way for people to send and receive letters and packages.
