Erigeron flettii is a special kind of flowering plant from North America. It belongs to the daisy family and is often called Flett's fleabane or Olympic Mountains fleabane. This plant is quite rare!
About Flett's Fleabane
Flett's fleabane is a small plant that grows back year after year. It's known as a perennial herb. It usually reaches about 15 centimeters (or 8 inches) tall. That's roughly the length of a standard pencil!
Where Does It Live?
This unique plant is found only in one specific place: the Olympic Peninsula in the state of Washington. When a plant or animal lives only in one area, it's called endemic. Many of these plants grow safely inside Olympic National Park. This park helps protect them and their natural home.
What Does It Look Like?
Most of the leaves of the Flett's fleabane grow in a bunch near the bottom of its stems. These leaves are shaped like a spearhead, which is called lance-shaped. They are dark green, but they have a cool white edge around them.
Each stem of the plant usually has just one flower head. This flower head looks like a small daisy. It can have up to 40 white ray florets, which are like the petals you see on a daisy. In the center, there are many tiny yellow disc florets. These disc florets are what make up the yellow middle part of the flower.
