Flint Concert Band facts for kids
The Flint Concert Band is a special group of musicians in Flint, Michigan. It's the oldest community band in the city, which means it's made up of people from the community who love to play music together. The band started way back in 1948!
It was founded by a talented musician named Gerret Ebmeyer and several other local music lovers. Mr. Ebmeyer was very important to the band. He wasn't just the founder and first Conductor (the person who leads the band). He was also a great trumpet player, a music teacher, a Band Director at a public school, and an administrator.
The Band's Early Days
The Flint Concert Band played its very first concert in 1949. For the next 20 years, they regularly performed at the Flint Central High School auditorium. Imagine playing in the same place for two decades!
Mr. Ebmeyer led the band as conductor until 1974. That's a long time to be in charge of a musical group!
Who Leads the Band?
Since Mr. Ebmeyer, many other talented conductors have led the Flint Concert Band. These include Frank Tamburrino, Barry Wentz, Ken Duquaine, Mel Keranen, and Mike Wolfe. Today, the band is led by Bruce Nieuwenhuis. Each conductor brings their own style and energy to the band's performances.
