Florence Everilda Goodeve (born May 24, 1848 – died January 15, 1916) was a talented English musician and writer. She wrote many songs and was also known as Mrs Arthur Goodeve.

About Florence Goodeve

Florence Everilda Knowlys was born in Heysham, a town in Lancashire, England. Her parents were Thomas John Knowlys and Anna Maria Martha Hesketh. They got married in September 1828. Her family built a large house called Heysham Tower in the area. Today, the Midland Hotel, Morecambe stands where their home used to be.

Florence was the youngest of ten children. She had four brothers and six sisters, though one sister passed away when she was very young. On November 23, 1869, Florence married Louis Arthur Goodeve at Christ Church, Clifton Down. She wore a simple veil and had seventeen bridesmaids!

After they married, Florence and Louis moved to Calcutta, India. Her husband worked there as a lawyer in the High Court. They had five children together. Florence later passed away in London, England.

Her Music and Art

Florence showed a gift for music from a young age. When she was only fourteen, she wrote a piece of music called "Glockenspiel Galop." She also wrote several songs around that time. A famous musician named Virginia Gabriel heard Florence's music and encouraged her to publish it.

Throughout her life, Florence published about 70 songs! Some of her most popular songs included "Ah, Well-a-Day," "The Jovial Beggar," and "Fiddle and I."

Later, she wrote other well-known songs like "Song of the Rivers," "In the Silver Years," and "I Would Not Love You Less." She also wrote a boating song called "Row, Row." Her song "The King's Wooing" was a special song written for a baritone singer named Robert Watkin-Mills.

Besides being a musician, Florence Goodeve was also a painter. She enjoyed painting as a hobby. She also wrote for different magazines, sharing her ideas and stories with readers.
