Florin Salam's Early Life and Music Journey
Starting His Career
Florin Salam was born on October 1, 1979. He grew up in a family of lăutari, who are traditional Romani musicians. When he was a teenager, he sang with his father and uncle's music groups.
Later, Florin took his father's place in the group. He sang with his uncle under the name Florin Fermecătoru'. During this time, he became friends with a bandleader named Dan Bursuc. Dan helped Florin record his first song, "Ce gagică șmecherită," in 2002. Florin also played a big part in the popular song "Of, viața mea" in 2000. This song was sung by Adrian Minune and Costi Ioniță.
At the end of 2002, Florin changed his stage name. He went from "Fermecătorul" (meaning charming) to "Salam." This new name comes from the Arabic word for peace. He kept making songs and albums with Dan Bursuc's help. His first album of manele music sold over 40,000 copies. Another album, "Doar cu tine" (meaning Only with you), was also very successful.
Collaborations and Recognition
His friendship with Dan Bursuc helped Florin meet other famous manele artists. These included Vali Vijelie, Nicolae Guță, and Daniela Gyorfi.
In 2008, Florin Salam performed a song with pop singer Paula Seling. They sang with the Bucharest Symphonic Orchestra. This performance showed how manele music could connect with mainstream pop music. The song's lyrics also talked about being kind to people from different backgrounds.
In October 2011, Florin worked with Bosnian musician Goran Bregović. They recorded songs like "Hopa Cupa" and "Omule." These songs were part of an album called Champagne for Gypsies. This album was made to support Gypsies in Europe.
Florin Salam is also important in the music community. He is the vice-president of an association for Romani artists and musicians in Romania. In December 2005, he was named the best manele performer of the year. Many people, including famous figures, enjoy his music.
Saint Tropez and Other Hits
In February 2013, Florin Salam released his song "Saint Tropez." The music video for this song became very popular online. It gained over 70 million views on YouTube. It was one of the most-watched videos in Romania in 2013. Since then, Florin has performed many concerts both in Romania and in other countries. He often performs where many Romani communities live.
Florin has also made popular songs with other artists. He worked with Claudia Păun and Nicolae Șușanu. His hit song "Ești bombă" (meaning You're a bomb) with Șușanu came out in July 2013. This video was watched by over 27 million people on YouTube.
He also released several songs with Claudia. These include "Ce bine ne stă împreună" (How well we stand together), "Ce frumoasă e dragostea" (How beautiful is love), and "Mergem mai departe" (We go further). These songs often talk about love and wanting to be close to someone special. These themes are very popular with his fans.
