Florin Salam's Early Life and Music Journey
Florin Salam was born on October 1, 1979. He grew up in a family of Romani musicians, also known as lăutari. These musicians often play traditional music at events.
When he was a teenager, Florin sang with his father and uncle's music groups. As his father got older, Florin took his place. He sang with his uncle under the name Florin Fermecătoru', which means "Florin the Charming."
Florin became friends with a bandleader named Dan Bursuc. Dan helped Florin record his first song in 2002. It was called "Ce gagică șmecherită," which means "Such a picky chick." Florin also played a big part in the success of the song "Of, viața mea" ("Oh, my life") in 2000.
At the end of 2002, Florin changed his stage name. He went from "Fermecătorul" to "Salam." The word "Salam" comes from Arabic and means "peace." He kept making songs and albums with Dan Bursuc's help. His first album of manele music sold over 40,000 copies!
He also worked with another artist, Costi Ioniță. They recorded a very successful album together called "Doar cu tine" ("Only with you"). This album was made in Constanța, where Costi Ioniță has his own music studio.
Florin's friendship with Dan Bursuc helped him meet other popular manele artists. These included Vali Vijelie, Nicolae Guță, and Daniela Gyorfi.
In 2008, Florin performed a special song with pop singer Paula Seling and the Bucharest Symphonic Orchestra. This performance was seen as a way to bring different music styles together. The song's lyrics also talked about being kind to people from different backgrounds.
In October 2011, Florin worked with Bosnian musician Goran Bregović. They recorded two songs, "Hopa Cupa" and "Omule." These songs were part of an album called Champagne for Gypsies. This album was made to support Romani people in Europe.
Florin Salam is also the vice-president of an important group. It's called "The Association of Romani Artists, Musicians and Lăutari from Romania." In December 2005, he was named the best manele performer of the year. Many people, including famous politician Mădălin Voicu and footballer Marius Niculae, enjoy his music.
Saint Tropez and Other Popular Songs
In February 2013, Florin Salam released a song called "Saint Tropez." The music video for this song became very popular. It gained more than 70 million views on YouTube. This video was one of the most-watched videos on Romanian YouTube in 2013.
Since then, Florin Salam has performed many concerts. He sings in Romania and in other countries where many Romani communities live.
He has also worked with other popular singers like Claudia Păun and Nicolae Șușanu. Their song "Ești bombă" ("You're a bomb"), released in July 2013, was viewed over 27 million times on YouTube.
Florin also released several songs with Claudia. These include "Ce bine ne stă împreună" ("How well we stand together"), "Ce frumoasă e dragostea" ("How beautiful is love"), and "Mergem mai departe" ("We go further"). These songs often talk about love and wanting to be close to someone special. These themes are very popular with his fans.
