Early Life and Learning

Folake Folarin-Coker was born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1974. Her family belongs to the Yoruba ethnic group. They are from Ibadan. She studied in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. After her studies, she earned a special degree in petroleum law. But her true passion was fashion. So, she returned to Nigeria to follow her dream.

Her Fashion Journey

Folake started her fashion brand, "Tiffany Amber," in Lagos in 1998. Her brand quickly became very popular. Today, Tiffany Amber has four stores and boutiques. You can find them in Lagos and Abuja.

Folake has shown her amazing designs in many fashion shows. These shows have been held in Africa, Europe, and the United States. In 2008, she made history! She was the first fashion designer from Africa to show her collection twice at the famous New York Fashion Week. This was a huge achievement!

She has also won many awards for her work:

• In 2009, she won the "Designer of the Year" award. This was at the African fashion week in Johannesburg.
• In 2011, her brand won "Fashion Brand of the Year." This award was given at the ARISE Magazine Fashion week.
• In 2013, she received an Enterprise Award. This was at the Women, Inspiration and Enterprise (WIE) Symposium.
• Also in 2013, she was named on the Forbes Power Women list. This list features very influential women.

Folake continues to create beautiful clothes. She recently showed her 'Nirvana' spring/summer collections. This was at the DOII Designs launch.

Family Life

Folake Coker was married to a businessman named Folorunsho Coker.
