Forbes is a famous American magazine about business. It was started by B.C. Forbes in 1917. Today, a company from Hong Kong called Integrated Whale Media Investments owns most of it. The magazine's main office is in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Forbes magazine comes out eight times a year. It has articles about money, industries, investing, and how companies sell their products. It also covers topics like technology, communication, science, and politics. Forbes is well-known for its special lists and rankings. These include lists of the richest people in America (the Forbes 400) and the world's top companies (the Forbes Global 2000). They also have a list of 600 notable young people under 30 (Forbes 30 Under 30). The motto of Forbes magazine is "Change the World."

The Story of Forbes Magazine

Forbes magazine was started on September 15, 1917. The founders were B. C. Forbes, who wrote about money, and Walter Drey, who knew a lot about publishing. B.C. Forbes gave the money and the name. Walter Drey helped with how to print and share the magazine. The first name of the magazine was Forbes: Devoted to Doers and Doings.

B.C. Forbes was the main editor until he passed away in 1954. His two oldest sons, Bruce Charles Forbes and Malcolm Forbes, helped him in his later years.

New Leaders and Growth

After his father died, Bruce Forbes took over. He was good at making the magazine run smoothly and improving how it was sold. During the ten years he was in charge (1954–1964), the number of magazines sold almost doubled.

When Bruce passed away, his brother Malcolm Forbes became the head of the company and the editor of Forbes magazine. In 2006, a group of investors bought a small part of the company. This led to a new company called Forbes Media LLC. This new company now includes Forbes magazine and its website, Forbes.com.

Moving Headquarters

In 2010, Forbes sold its main office building in Manhattan to New York University. However, Forbes continued to use the building for five more years. In 2014, the company's main office moved to Jersey City, New Jersey.

New Owners for Forbes

In 2013, Forbes Media was put up for sale. In July 2014, a company from Hong Kong called Integrated Whale Media Investments bought a 51 percent share of the company. This means they became the main owners of Forbes.

Forbes.com Website

Forbes.com is the online part of Forbes Media. It is one of the most popular business websites in the world. It uses the slogan "Home Page for the World's Business Leaders."

The website lets many different people write articles for it. These writers are called "contributors." They publish their articles directly on the website. They get paid based on how many people read their articles. More than 2,500 people have written for Forbes.com.

Forbes.com also lets companies publish their own articles on the website. This program is called BrandVoice. It helps companies share their stories alongside the regular news articles.

David Churbuck started the Forbes website in 1996. The site became famous in 1998 when it uncovered a journalist who had made up stories for another magazine. The website, like the magazine, also publishes many lists. These lists often focus on billionaires and their expensive homes.

In 2019, Forbes launched a streaming video platform called Forbes8. It is made for people who want to start their own businesses. In 2020, they announced new documentary series like Forbes Rap Mentors and Driven Against the Odds.
