Forbestown is a small community in Butte County, California. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's a special area defined by the government for counting people. Forbestown is located high up, at 2,772 feet (845 meters) above sea level.
This town used to be called Boles Dry Diggins and Forbes Diggins. It got its current name from B.F. Forbes, who opened a store there way back in 1850. A post office was set up in 1854, closed for a while, and then reopened in 1936.
A Look at Forbestown's Past
Forbestown was once a very busy place, especially during the second half of the 1800s. It was a major center for mining, where people dug for valuable minerals. However, by the late 1930s, most of the mining had stopped. The town became almost like a ghost town, with very few people living there. Today, you can still find old foundations and pieces of buildings from its mining days.

According to the 2010 United States Census, 320 people lived in Forbestown. Most of the people were White, but there were also residents who identified as African American, Native American, and Asian. About 7% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
