About Forfar Farmington
Forfar Farmington was founded in 1984. Over the years, it has become a well-known name in Scottish women's football. The club aims to provide opportunities for girls and women to play football at different levels.
The Main Team: Forfar Farmington SWPL
The club's senior team, known as Forfar Farmington, played in the Scottish Women's Premier League. They earned their spot in this top league in 2005 after being promoted from the Scottish Women's First Division.
For many years, Forfar Farmington was one of the most successful women's teams in Scotland. They achieved great league finishes, especially for a club that was not directly linked to a big men's football club. Only Glasgow City had more successful league results during that time.
However, the club faced challenges in 2021. It became difficult to find enough players to form a strong team for the 2021–22 season. After a tough first match in the League Cup, the club decided to step back from the SWPL. They chose to focus their efforts on youth programs and community football instead.
Developing Talent: Reserve and Ladies Teams
Forfar Farmington has also had other teams to help develop players. These teams allowed more players to gain experience and improve their skills.
The 'Forfar Farmington Reserves' team was started in 2010. They played in different divisions, including the Scottish Women's Second Division (North) and the Scottish Women's Football League Second Division East. In 2011, this team even won their league title. They also reached the Semi Finals of the Scottish Women's Football League Cup in their first year.
Another team, 'Forfar Farmington Ladies', also played in the Scottish Women's Second Division (North). This team was sometimes called 'Farmington Blues'.
Recent Success and Future Plans
In 2017, Forfar Farmington won the SWPL 2. This victory allowed them to return to the top tier of Scottish women's football for the 2018 season.
More recently, the Forfar Farmington Ladies team has been reformed. Some experienced players who used to play for the Premier side have returned. These include Erin Cattanach and Cheryl Kilcoyne, who have played at the highest level of women's football in Scotland.
In the 2022/23 season, Forfar Farmington became the "Scottish Women's Football League Cup Champions." This was a big win for the club, thanks to a strong new squad. This success also earned them a spot in the League 1 Play-off. They are now hoping to be promoted to League 1 next season.
