What is Station Park?
Station Park is a place where football matches are played. It has been around for a long time, opening in 1888. The stadium is owned by the Forfar Athletic F.C. team. The playing field is made of a special type of artificial grass called 3G artificial turf.
How Many People Can Fit?
The stadium can hold 6,777 fans. This includes 739 seats for people to sit down. In the past, even more people could fit inside. The biggest crowd ever at Station Park was 10,780 fans. This happened in 1970 during a game against Rangers. The number of people allowed in was later made smaller to make sure everyone stays safe.
Exploring the Stadium
You can walk around all four sides of the football pitch at Station Park.
- There is a large standing area behind the goal at the west end. This part is sometimes called the "mert end." It gets this name because there used to be a cattle market nearby. When many visiting fans come, this area is used just for them.
- On the north side of the pitch, there is a grandstand with seats. This part of the stadium was opened in 1959.
- The south side has a covered area where fans can stand.
- There are also uncovered standing areas to the east and in front of the main food area.
When you visit, you can buy food like the local specialty, Forfar bridies, which are a type of meat pastry. They also sell more common stadium snacks like pies. There are plans to make the main stand more modern and add better facilities in the future.
Getting to Station Park
The name "Station Park" comes from its history. It used to be very close to the town's railway station. This station was part of a main train line that connected cities like Aberdeen, Glasgow, and London. However, the railway station closed in 1968.
Today, Station Park is one of the furthest football stadiums in the Scottish League from a train station. The closest train stations are in Dundee and Arbroath. Both of these are about 14 miles away. Because of this, it is usually easiest to reach Station Park by car or bus.
