Exploring Station Park: A Look at the Stands
Station Park lets fans walk around all four sides of the football pitch. Each side offers a different view of the game.
The "Mert End" Terrace
Behind the goal at the western side of the stadium, there is a large standing area called the "mert end." This name comes from a nearby cattle market, which is just over the wall. When many visiting fans come to a game, this area is often set aside just for them.
The Main Grandstand
On the north side of the pitch, you'll find a grandstand with seats. This part of the stadium was first opened in 1959. It gives fans a comfortable place to sit and watch the action.
Other Viewing Areas
The south side of the ground has a covered terrace, which protects fans from the weather. There is also more standing room on the east side and in front of the main stand. When you get hungry at the game, you can find food like the local specialty, Forfar bridies, and other snacks like pies.
How to Get to Station Park
The name "Station Park" gives a clue about its past. The stadium used to be very close to the Forfar railway station. This station was an important stop on the Caledonian Railway line, connecting Aberdeen to cities like Glasgow and London.
The Railway Station's Closure
However, the Forfar railway station closed down in 1968. This happened because of something called the Beeching Axe, which involved closing many railway lines across Britain. Today, Station Park is one of the Scottish League grounds furthest away from a train station.
Traveling by Road
The closest train stations to Forfar are in Dundee and Arbroath. Both of these are about 14 miles away. Because of this, most people find it easiest to reach Station Park by road.
