Forgandenny is a small village in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Its name comes from Scottish Gaelic, Forgrann Eithne, which means 'Over-Bog of Eithne'. Eithne is an old Gaelic girl's name.
The village is about four miles south of Perth. You can get to Perth by bus in about 20 minutes. There is a regular bus service available. Forgandenny is also about 45 minutes from Edinburgh and one hour from Glasgow. You can even catch a daily train from Perth to London King's Cross.
Village Life
Forgandenny has a church, a village hall, and a primary school. The church is very old, built in the Norman style. However, its windows and doors have been updated over time.
The village used to have a Post Office. It closed in 2020 when its owners, Jim and Jacqueline Johnston, retired. They had run the Post Office for 32 years. Jim Johnston explained that most people now do things online. In their last few years, they mainly sold sweets and soft drinks. The Post Office company has said it wants to open a new branch in the village.
Strathallan School
Near Forgandenny is Strathallan School. This is a boarding school that opened in 1920. It has about 550 students and 70 staff members. Many of the staff live in Forgandenny village.
