The Fortaleza River is a river in Peru, a country in South America. It starts in the Ancash area, high up in the mountains called the Cordillera Negra. This river is about 100 kilometres (62 mi) long.
The area that drains into the Fortaleza River, known as its basin, covers about 2,300 square kilometres (890 sq mi). The river's water level changes a lot throughout the year. From June to October, there isn't enough water for it to reach the Pacific Ocean.
Farmers use the river's water a lot. They especially use it to grow sugarcane. The Fortaleza River flows from east to west through the Barranca province. It finally reaches the Pacific Ocean near the farming area of Paramonga. The river's end point is just north of the town of Paramonga.
