History of Foundryville

Foundryville has a long and interesting history. In 1800, one of the first buildings was a distillery, where alcoholic drinks were made. Just ten years later, in 1810, a school was built, showing that education was important to the early settlers.

In 1835, a special type of factory called a charcoal iron furnace was built in the community. This furnace used charcoal to heat iron. Later, in 1847, a different kind of factory called a foundry was built. A foundry is a place where metal is melted and poured into molds to create shapes. This important factory gave Foundryville its name!

Geography and Location

Foundryville is located in the eastern part of Columbia County, Pennsylvania. You can find it at these coordinates: 41 degrees, 4 minutes, 37 seconds North and 76 degrees, 14 minutes, 7 seconds West.

The community is in the southeastern corner of Briar Creek Township, Pennsylvania. It shares borders with the town of Berwick to the south and Salem Township in Luzerne County to the east. To the north and west, Foundryville is surrounded by the more rural parts of Briar Creek Township.

A small stream called Glen Brook flows through the village. This brook eventually flows into Briar Creek, which then joins the large Susquehanna River.

An exciting event called the Berwick Run for the Diamonds actually passes right through Foundryville! This is a well-known race that brings people to the area.
