Fountain is a small village located in Mason County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. In 2020, about 170 people lived here. It is part of Sherman Township.
History of Fountain Village
Fountain was started in 1882. This happened when a railroad line was built and reached this area. The village got its name because there was a natural spring nearby, which is like a small fountain of water. Later, in 1913, Fountain officially became an incorporated village. This means it got its own local government.
Geography and Location
Fountain is in the northeastern part of Mason County. It is about 15 miles (24 kilometers) northeast of Ludington. Ludington is the main city and the county seat for Mason County.
The village covers a total area of about 1.02 square miles (2.6 square kilometers). All of this area is land. A small river, called the North Branch of the Lincoln River, flows through the southern part of the village.
