Fountain Geyser is a famous geyser found in the Lower Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. This amazing natural wonder is located in the United States.

What is Fountain Geyser?

Fountain Geyser is a special type of geyser called a "fountain-type" geyser. This means it shoots water up in wide bursts, like a fountain. It's one of the main attractions in the Fountain Paint Pots area.

How it Erupts

When Fountain Geyser erupts, it can shoot water and steam up to 80 feet (about 24 meters) high! Most of the time, the bursts reach 40 to 50 feet (12 to 15 meters). An eruption usually lasts about 30 minutes.

The time between eruptions can change. It's often between 4.5 and 6 hours. Sometimes, it can take much longer, up to 11 or 12 hours, for the next eruption to start.

Wild-Phase Eruptions

Sometimes, Fountain Geyser acts a bit differently. This is called a "wild-phase" eruption. During this time, the water doesn't shoot as high. But the eruption can last for a very long time, sometimes even up to two weeks!

Fountain Geyser's Neighbors

Fountain Geyser is usually very active. It has a neighbor called Morning Geyser. Morning Geyser is bigger, but it doesn't erupt as often. Most years, Morning Geyser stays quiet, while Fountain Geyser puts on a regular show.

It's easy to confuse Fountain Geyser with another nearby geyser. This one is called Great Fountain Geyser. Great Fountain Geyser is also in the Lower Geyser Basin and is even larger. But they are two different geysers!
