Fountain Valley is a beautiful area in British Columbia, Canada. It's also known as Three Lake Valley or Fountain Lakes Valley. This valley is found on the east side of Fountain Ridge, close to the town of Lillooet. It's a peaceful, rural community where people live in recreational homes and small ranches. Many people consider it a quiet "suburb" of Lillooet.

Exploring Fountain Valley

Fountain Valley is a long, narrow area of land between hills. It sits just east of the town of Lillooet. The valley is known for its three main lakes, which give it the name "Three Lake Valley."

Where is Fountain Valley?

The valley is located on the eastern side of Fountain Ridge. It's right next to the Indian reserve community of Fountain. The valley stretches from the Fraser River in the south, near Fountainview Farms, and gently slopes down towards Fountain in the north.

A Look at History

Fountain Valley has a rich history! It was an important part of the River Trail. This trail followed the Fraser River from Yale all the way up to Big Bar and beyond.

The River Trail was a key route for travelers and freight wagons. They were heading north to the Cariboo goldfields. Fountain, then called the Upper Fountains, was a major stop and meeting point.

The trail through the valley later became a wagon road. Much of today's road in the valley still uses that old path. It climbs a steep hill from the south end and then goes down gently towards Fountain.

The Fountain Lakes

The valley gets its official name, Three Lake Valley, from the three lakes found here. These lakes are collectively known as the Fountain Lakes. They are:

  • Cinquefoil Lake
  • Kwotlenemo Lake (also called Fountain Lake)
  • Chilhil Lake

First Nations Communities

Several Indian reserves belonging to the Fountain Indian Band are located in Fountain Valley. These are special areas of land set aside for First Nations people.

The reserves include:

  • Fountain Creek Indian Reserve No. 8
  • Fountain Indian Reserve No. 4
  • Fountain Indian Reserve No. 12

These three are all located along Fountain Creek, north of the Fountain Lakes.

Other reserves in the valley are:

  • Chilhil Indian Reserve No. 6, which is south of Chilhil Lake.
  • Fish Lake Indian Reserve No. 7, found at the south end of Cinquefoil Lake. This reserve is governed by the Lytton First Nation.
  • Quatlenemo Indian Reserve No. 5

All the reserves, except for Fish Lake IR 7, are part of the Fountain First Nation.
