History of the Four Queens Hotel
The Four Queens was created by Ben Goffstein. He used to be the president of another hotel-casino called the Riviera. Joe Wells, whose daughter was actress Dawn Wells, was also a partner. Construction began on November 16, 1964. The casino opened on June 2, 1966. The hotel welcomed its first guests on August 12, 1966.
How the Four Queens Got Its Name
The hotel is named after Ben Goffstein's four daughters. Each daughter was linked to a different Queen playing card. Faith was the Queen of Hearts, Hope was the Queen of Diamonds, Benita was the Queen of Clubs, and Michele was the Queen of Spades. Michele, the oldest, shared that her father even made business cards for them. He made one for her mother that said 'Joker'.
Ben Goffstein passed away a year after the hotel opened. Tommy Callahan took over as president. He kept the room prices at $10 a night for many years.
Changes in Ownership and Management
From 1973 to 2003, the Four Queens was owned by Elsinore Corporation. This company later became independent from Hyatt Corporation.
Jeanne Hood became the hotel's president in 1977. She was one of the first women to lead a gaming property in Las Vegas. She held her position until 1993.
In 2002, local businessman Terry Caudill agreed to buy the Four Queens. The sale happened in 2003 for $20 million. Caudill's company, TLC Casino Enterprises, now owns and operates it. He started a $20 million renovation project that finished in 2007.
The Four Queens was also a filming location for the 2023 TV show Obliterated.
