History of Fox Lake
The name "Fox Lake" comes from the original Native American name for the lake. This name was hosh a rac ah tah, which means "fox."
Geography and the Lake
The town of Fox Lake covers a total area of about 38.2 square miles (99.0 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 32.2 square miles (83.5 square kilometers). The rest, about 6.0 square miles (15.4 square kilometers), is water.
A large lake, also called Fox Lake, is located within the town. This lake is quite big, covering 2,713 acres.
