History of Fox Lake
Fox Lake was first settled in 1838. It was the very first settlement in Dodge County. The first people to live here were Winnebago Indians. They called the area "Hosh-a-rac-ah-tah," which means "good land." The name Fox Lake came later. It might be named after a Winnebago Indian called Big Fox. He once saved a lost trapper. Another idea is that it's simply the English translation of the Indian name for the area.
