The Story of James Frame

The story of Frametown begins in 1797 with a man named James Frame. He was hunting along the Elk River in what was then western Virginia. He and a friend got separated. James thought his friend had been killed, so he went back to Augusta County, Virginia. There, he found the person who owned the land he had been hunting on.

The landowner agreed to sell the land to James. James then returned to his small cabin on the Elk River. He built a water mill there. Because of this, the place became known as Frame's Mill. In 1801, James got married and had a large family. All of his children stayed on his land. Over time, this area grew and became known as Frametown.
