About Francine Holley's Life

Francine Holley started learning to paint early. From 1937 to 1944, she was an apprentice to a painter named Mathilde Du Monceau. This means she learned directly from an experienced artist.

Her Art Education

She continued her studies at the Académie royale des beaux-arts de Liège. This is a famous art school in Belgium. After that, in 1946, she moved to the exciting city of Paris, France.

In Paris, she learned from other great artists. She trained with André Lhote from 1947 to 1948. She also worked in the studios of Fernand Léger, Jean Dewasne, and Edgard Pillet. These were all important painters who helped shape her style.

First Art Shows and Projects

Francine had her first art show in 1953. It was at the Galerie Arnaud in Paris. After that, her art was shown in many galleries. Her paintings were displayed in both France and Belgium.

That same year, she created a special wall decoration. It was for the casino in Le Pouliguen, a town in France. By 1955, her drawings became more detailed. She also started using different materials in her art.

Large-Scale Artworks

In 1962, Francine Holley painted a big mural. It was at the entrance of the École Technique Aéronautique de Ville d'Avray. This project was requested by Raymond Lopez.

She also created a graphic design for the Dalle de Bobigny. Later, in 1974, she made two colorful sculptures. These were placed at the École Le Londeau in Noisy-le-Sec. In 1978, she painted another mural. This one was in the entrance hall of the Tour Helsinki building.

Later Years and Legacy

As she got older, Francine Holley's art changed again. By 1998, her works became simpler and more focused. They were described as "synthetic," meaning they captured the main idea in a clear way.

In 2007, a special art show was held in her honor. This type of show is called a retrospective. It displayed many of her works from different periods. The show was at the Roybet Fould Museum in Courbevoie, France.

Francine Holley lived a long and creative life. She passed away in Paris on May 22, 2020, at the age of 100. Her art continues to be remembered and appreciated.
