Frank Douglas-Pennant, 5th Baron Penrhyn (born November 21, 1865 – died February 3, 1967) was an important British nobleman. He also served as a Justice of the Peace for Northamptonshire, which meant he helped keep law and order in his local area. He lived to be 101 years old!

A Life of Service and Family

Frank Douglas-Pennant had a long and interesting life. He went to famous schools like Eton College and the RMC, Sandhurst. Sandhurst is a special military academy where officers are trained.

Military Career and Wars

After his training, he became an officer in the King's Royal Rifle Corps (KRRC). This was a well-known British Army regiment. He fought in the Boer War, which took place in South Africa. Later, at the start of the First World War, he became a Lieutenant Colonel. This was a high rank in his regiment, the KRRC's 10th Battalion.

Family Life and Marriages

Frank Douglas-Pennant was married twice. His first marriage was in 1892 to Maud Eleonora Hardy. Their marriage ended in 1903. Later, he married Alice Nellie Cooper. She was the daughter of Sir William Charles Cooper.

Becoming a Baron

In 1949, when Frank was 83 years old, the previous Baron Penrhyn passed away without any children. This meant that the direct family line for the title had ended. Because of this, Frank Douglas-Pennant became the 5th Baron Penrhyn. Even though he was very old, his eldest son passed away before him. So, when Frank died at 101 years old in 1967, his second son, Malcolm, inherited the title.
