Frank Kent Foss (born May 9, 1895 – died April 5, 1989) was an American athlete. He was famous for his skill in the pole vault event. Frank Foss won a gold medal at the 1920 Summer Olympics. He even broke his own unofficial world record during that amazing competition.

Frank Foss grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. This is a town near Chicago. He went to Cornell University and graduated in 1917. While at Cornell, he was part of a special group called the Quill and Dagger society.
Frank was also a top athlete during his college years. He became the IC4A Champion in 1916. The year before, he had tied for first place in the same event. He continued his success after college. Frank was the AAU champion in both 1919 and 1920. These wins showed he was ready for the Olympics.

The 1920 Summer Olympics were held in Antwerp, Belgium. Frank Foss competed in the men's pole vault event. He performed exceptionally well. He not only won the gold medal but also set a new record. This record was his own personal best. It was a fantastic achievement for him and for the United States.
Life After the Olympics
After his Olympic victory, Frank Foss started a new career. He began working in the meat packing industry. This job even took him to Argentina for some time. Later, he returned to the United States.
