Frank Reyes (born June 4, 1969) is a very famous singer from the Dominican Republic. People call him "The Prince of Bachata" because he is one of the best bachata artists ever. Bachata is a special kind of music from his home country.
Frank Reyes is well-known across Latin America. He has won the "Bachata Artist of the Year" award at the Soberano Awards seven times. This makes him the artist with the most wins in that group! Some of his most popular songs include "Tu Eres Ajena," "Nada De Nada," "Princesa," and "Amor a Distancia."
Frank Reyes' Early Life
Frank Reyes was born in a town called Tenares in the Dominican Republic. He found out he loved music when he was just a little boy. He and his brothers even started their own music group. They were all very good at singing.
When Frank was only 12 years old, he moved to Santo Domingo. He worked very hard at many different jobs. His dream was always to have his own business. As he grew up, he decided to follow his passion and become a musician.
Frank Reyes' Music Career
Starting His Music Journey (1991–1997)
In 1991, Frank Reyes released his first album, called Tu Serás Mi Reina. One of the first popular songs from this album was "Como Fui A Enamorarme De Ti." Another song, "Voy Pa'lla," became famous because of another bachata musician, Antony Santos.
In 1993, Frank released his second album, Si El Amor Condena, Estoy Condenado. This album had the hit song "Se Fue Mi Amor." In 1994, he released Bachata Con Categoría. Around this time, he started calling himself "El Principe del Amargue," which means "The Prince of Bitterness." This was because bachata music often sang about heartbreak.
From 1995 to 1997, Frank Reyes released three more albums. His music started to sound more modern. In 1997, he also released Estelares De Frank Reyes. This album was a collection of his best songs from his first two albums. It was very successful and helped his career grow even more.
Becoming the Prince of Bachata (1998–2001)
In 1998, Frank Reyes released a "greatest hits" album called El Principe de la Bachata: 16 Éxitos. This album had new versions of 16 of his popular songs. It was with this album that he became known as "The Prince of Bachata," a name he has used ever since.
In the same year, he released his seventh album, Vine A Decirte Adios. This album had songs like "Muy Lindo Amor" and "Vine A Decirte Adios." Frank Reyes changed his music style, which made his career reach new heights. People all over the world started to recognize his music.
In 1999, he won the "Bachata Artist of the Year" award at the Soberano Awards. Later that year, he released his eighth album, Extraño Mi Pueblo. This album included popular songs like "Orgullo De Mas" and "Con El Amor No Se Juega."
In 2000, Frank Reyes released his first live album, Bachata De Gala. This album was recorded at a concert with a full orchestra. Later that year, he released his ninth album, Amor En Silencio. This album featured big hits like "Ya Basta" and "Tu Eres Ajena."
Big Hits and Awards (2002–2006)
In 2002, Frank Reyes won "Bachata Artist of the Year" for the second time. Later that year, he released his tenth album, Déjame Entrar En Ti. This album was very successful and appeared on the Billboard music charts. Many songs from this album became popular on the radio, including "Nada De Nada." Because of this album's success, he won his third "Bachata Artist of the Year" award in 2003.
In 2004, he released his eleventh album, Cuando Se Quiere Se Puede. Many people think this is one of his best albums because almost every song became a hit on the radio. One song, "Voy A Dejarte De Amar," was very popular. At the 2005 Soberano Awards, this album won "Album of the Year." Frank Reyes also won "Bachata Artist of the Year" for the fourth time and "Bachata of the Year" for his song "Quien Eres Tu." He also released his second live album, En Vivo, in 2004.
In 2005, he released his third live album, From Santo Domingo Live. This album was part of a series of live albums. In the same year, he released his twelfth album, Dosis De Amor. This album included songs with other artists like Don Miguelo. One of the biggest hits from this album was "Princesa," which became his first song to reach number one on the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart in 2006. "Princesa" also won "Bachata of the Year" at the 2007 Soberano Awards.
More Success and New Music (2006–2011)
In late 2006, Frank Reyes released his thirteenth album, Pienso En Ti. While the main song was bachata, most of the album was merengue music. This album also had a song with another Dominican singer, Alex Bueno. This was one of Frank's first collaborations with another bachata artist.
In 2007, he released his fourth live album, Tour 2007. Later that year, he released the album Te Regalo El Mar. Many songs from this album were successful, especially the song "Te Regalo El Mar." Another song, "Amor Desperdiciado," did very well on the Billboard charts, even reaching number one on the Tropical Airplay chart.
In 2009, he released another "greatest hits" album called Lo Mejor De Lo Mejor. This album included two new songs. Later that year, he released his fifteenth album, Sigue Tu Vida. This album had hits like "Te Pienso" and "Mi Reina." In 2010, he also sang on Ivy Queen's song "Cosas De La Vida."
Continued Hits and Collaborations (2012–2018)
In 2012, Frank Reyes released the album Soy Tuyo. It included popular songs like "Amor a Distancia," which was a top 5 hit on the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart. In 2013, he released a pop rock version of his song "Que Te Puedo Decir" with the band Huellas Invisibles. Also in 2013, Frank Reyes sang on the song "Corazón De Hierro" with the bachata group Vena. This song was also a top 5 hit on the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart.
In 2014, he released the album Noche de Pasión. This album featured another singer, Alexandra. The album was very popular and reached the top 10 on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart. The song "Noche de Pasión" became a huge international hit. In 2015, he won "Bachata Artist of the Year" again at the Soberano Awards.
In September 2016, he released the album Devuélveme Mi Libertad. Two songs from this album, "Fecha De Vencimiento" and "Devuélveme Mi Libertad," were very popular. In 2017, Frank Reyes won the Soberano Awards for "Bachata Artist of the Year" for the sixth time. In 2018, he won this award for the seventh time, making him the most awarded artist in that group.
More Music and a Merengue Album (2019–2021)
In 2019, Frank Reyes worked with Romeo Santos on the song "Payasos." This song was part of Romeo Santos' album Utopía. "Payasos" was a hit on the Billboard charts and had a music video. They even performed the song live at a big concert.
On November 8, 2019, Frank Reyes released a merengue album called Solo Merengue, Vol. 17. This was his first album with only merengue songs and no bachata. It included songs with other famous artists like Wason Brazobán and Toño Rosario.
In 2020, he sang on a song called "No Voy A Llorar" with bachata singer Luis Segura. On February 14, 2020, Frank Reyes released "Decidí," the first song from his nineteenth album. This song quickly became number one on the bachata charts in the Dominican Republic. He released more songs from this album, like "Como Hojas Al Viento" and "Aventurero," which also reached number one. On February 12, 2021, he released the full album, Aventurero.
Recent Music and Mi Historia Musical (2022–Present)
On February 10, 2022, Frank Reyes worked with merengue singer Eddy Herrera on a bachata version of the song "Por Última Vez." On June 3, 2022, he released "Te Olvidaste De Mi" with bachata singer Rafa Jiménez. This song was very popular and reached the top 10 on the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart.
In 2023, Frank Reyes started releasing a series of albums called Mi Historia Musical (My Musical History). These albums feature new versions of his classic songs to celebrate his long career. He released Vol. 1 on June 23, 2023. He then released Vol. 2 on August 25, 2023, and Vol. 3 on December 8, 2023. On February 23, 2024, he released Vol. 4. He also released a song called "No Soy Nada Sin Ti" with Henry Santos in October 2023.
