Salcedo is an important city in the Dominican Republic. It is the capital of the Hermanas Mirabal Province. This city is famous as the birthplace of the brave Mirabal sisters.

These sisters were Dominican heroines who fought against a powerful leader named Rafael Trujillo. A special museum in Salcedo remembers three of the sisters. Their remaining sister, Bélgica (Dedé) Mirabal, took care of the museum until she passed away in 2014.

The city of Salcedo is named after Francisco Antonio Salcedo. He was a fighter who helped protect the country. He fought against the Haitian army in the northwest. This happened after the Dominican Republic became independent from Haiti in 1844.
