Franklin Farm is a community in Fairfax County, Virginia, in the United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government uses for collecting statistics, but it doesn't have its own city government. Franklin Farm is also a special "planned community" within this area.

It's located about 20 miles west of Washington, D.C., making it a suburb of the nation's capital. In 2020, about 19,189 people lived here.

The Franklin Farm Community

The planned community of Franklin Farm was started in 1980. It covers about 1.32 square miles and has 1,777 homes. This community is designed with lots of fun things to do outdoors!

It has 13 miles of trails for walking or biking, 6 fishing ponds, 6 tennis courts, and 2 swimming pools. There are also 14 small play areas called "tot lots" for younger kids. You can find 3 multipurpose courts and 1 sand volleyball court too. The community also has 180 acres of open green space.

The Fairfax County Parkway road goes through the middle of the community. A group called the Franklin Farm Foundation manages the planned community.

History of Franklin Farm

The name "Franklin Farm" comes from a large farm that used to be here. An airline pilot named James Franklin bought the farm in 1936. He used money he won from a sweepstakes to buy it!

The farm started at 100 acres and grew to 827 acres by 1979. After that, the land was sold to be developed into the community we know today. The Franklin Farm community eventually included 1,777 homes spread across 27 different neighborhoods.
