Franklin Park was once part of a large area called the Depreciation Lands in Western Pennsylvania. In 1823, people living there asked to form their own town. They wanted to separate from Ohio Township.
A new township was created in August 1823. This new area included what we now know as Franklin Park. It also included land that is now Bradford Woods and Marshall Township. Marshall Township was formed 40 years later. Bradford Woods then separated from Marshall in 1915.
At first, Franklin Township did not have any big towns. It had farms, schools, small country stores, and churches. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the area had a busy oil and gas industry. After World War II, more neighborhoods were built. Finally, in August 1961, Franklin Park officially became a borough.
