Franklin Park Mall is a popular shopping mall located in Toledo, Ohio. It's a great place to shop, eat, and have fun! The main stores, called anchor stores, include Dillard's, Macy's, Dick's Sporting Goods, Forever 21, DSW, and JCPenney.

History of Franklin Park Mall

How the Mall Started

Franklin Park Mall first opened its doors on July 22, 1971. It was built by a company called The Rouse Company. Before the mall was there, the land was actually an airport named Franklin Airport.

When the mall first opened, it had about 75 stores. The main anchor stores were Hudson's, J. C. Penney, and a local store called Lamson Brothers. The J. C. Penney store was very large for its time. The mall had cool features like sunken areas in front of the big stores and skylights that let in natural light. There was even a special art piece, a mobile made by Alexander Calder, near the Hudson's entrance.

Changes Over the Years

In 1974, Lamson Brothers closed down. Another store, Jacobson's from Jackson, Michigan, took its place.

Many years later, in 1993, the mall got a big makeover. A new section was added, and a store called the Lion Store became a new anchor. In 1998, the Lion Store changed its name to Dillard's. Then, in 2001, Hudson's became Marshall Field's.

New Owners and More Updates

In 2002, a company called The Westfield Group bought the mall. They changed its name to "Westfield Shoppingtown Franklin Park." Later, they just called it "Westfield Franklin Park." Around the same time, Jacobson's closed its store.

In 2004, the old Jacobson's store was taken down. A huge renovation project, costing about $100 million, began. In 2005, a brand new section opened. This new area included a movie theater, a Dick's Sporting Goods store, a new Food Court, and a Borders bookstore. In 2006, Marshall Field's became Macy's.

More new stores were added in 2008, like DSW Warehouse, Old Navy, and Ulta. These stores were part of another expansion.

When Borders bookstore closed in 2011, its space was taken over by Forever 21, which moved from a smaller spot inside the mall.

In 2013, the mall was sold again to a company called Starwood Capital Group. After this sale, the mall went back to its original name, Franklin Park Mall.
