Frankton's Early History

Frankton has a rich history, especially concerning its community services. These services helped the small town grow and connect with other places.

Schools in Frankton

Education was important to the early residents of Frankton.

Frankton School

The first school, Frankton School, opened its doors in 1884. It provided education for children in the area for many years. However, it eventually closed in 1938.

Dutton North School

Another school, Dutton North, also served the community. It was located near the Levi's Water Hole property. This school was close to the boundary with Dutton. Dutton North School operated from 1914 until 1927.

Post Office Services

Connecting with the outside world was vital for Frankton. The Post Office played a key role in this.

Frankton Post Office Timeline

The Frankton Post Office first opened on 1 September 1882. It helped residents send and receive mail. In January 1910, its status changed to a "receiving office." This meant it handled mail but might have offered fewer services. On 1 July 1927, it was upgraded back to a full post office. However, it closed permanently on 30 November 1930.

Community and Church Life

Even without a dedicated building, the community found ways to gather.

Early Church Gatherings

In the 1880s, Frankton had a group of people who followed the Congregational Church. They did not have their own church building. Instead, they met in the homes of people who lived in the area. This shows how close-knit the community was.
