Freaky Stories is a cool Canadian animated TV show. It's like a collection of different short stories, also known as an anthology series. This show first aired on YTV in English. In French Canada, it was called Frissons and shown on Canal Famille.
The show is all about urban legends. These are modern myths or scary tales that people often share. The stories are told by two awesome animatronic puppets. One is Larry de Bug, a funny cockroach. The other is his gooey sidekick, Maurice the maggot. They hang out in a 1940s-style diner called Ted's Diner.

Freaky Stories is often called "a Twilight Zone for kids." It focuses on those spooky myths and legends you might hear around a campfire. Or maybe as a bedtime story that gives you chills!
The Famous Catchphrase
Every episode of Freaky Stories starts and ends with a special phrase. It goes: "This is a true story, and it happened to a friend of a friend of mine." Larry de Bug also adds his own twist: "Just because they never happened, doesn't mean they ain't true." This makes you wonder if the stories are real or not!
Different Looks for Every Story
One cool thing about the show is that each story looks different. The animation styles and music change a lot. In the first season alone, there were 20 different visual styles! This was done on purpose to keep viewers hooked. It made sure your attention never wandered.
How Freaky Stories Was Made
The idea for Freaky Stories came from a creator named Steve Schnier. He thought of the concept of modern urban legends. He successfully pitched his idea to YTV way back in 1991.
From Idea to TV Show
In 1994, Steve teamed up with John Delmage, an executive producer. Together, they made a test episode, called a pilot. This pilot first showed on YTV during their "Dark Night 3" Halloween event on October 28, 1995. The full series then started as a special one-hour show on October 24, 1997.
Animation Style
The pilot episode was made using traditional animation. This means it was drawn by hand and shot on film. But the main series used newer technology. It was digitally inked, painted, and put together. This made the animation process smoother and faster.
Meet the Voice Actors
The voices of Larry and Maurice are very important to the show. They bring these puppet characters to life!
