Frederick Theodore Haas Jr. (born January 3, 1916 – died January 26, 2004) was an American professional golfer. He was known for his strong amateur career and for breaking a famous winning streak by golf legend Byron Nelson. Fred Haas won several important tournaments during his career.

Fred Haas was a talented golfer from the United States. He was born in Portland, Arkansas. He played golf for many years, first as an amateur and then as a professional. He became well-known for his skills on the golf course.
Early Life and Amateur Golf
Fred grew up in Arkansas. After finishing high school, he went to Louisiana State University. While in college, he became a golf star. In 1937, his senior year, he won the NCAA individual championship. This was a huge achievement for a college golfer.
As an amateur, Fred won several other big tournaments. These included the Southern Amateur and the Western Junior championships multiple times. He also won the Canadian Amateur Championship in 1936.
Turning Professional
Fred Haas made a big splash even before he became a professional golfer. In 1945, while still an amateur, he won the Memphis Invitational tournament. This was a very special win because it stopped Byron Nelson's amazing streak of 11 straight victories. Nelson, a golf legend, finished fourth in that tournament.
Fred officially became a professional golfer in early 1946. He then joined the PGA Tour, which is one of the top golf tours in the world.
Big Wins and Achievements
Fred Haas had a successful professional career. He won a total of seven professional tournaments. Five of these wins were on the PGA Tour.

- The Memphis Invitational in 1945 (as an amateur).

In major championships, Fred Haas showed his skill. He finished in the top 10 at the Masters Tournament in 1950. He also placed in the top 10 at the U.S. Open in 1954. His best finish at the PGA Championship was reaching the quarterfinals in 1952, which is like finishing in the top 8.

Fred Haas also represented the United States in important team competitions.
