Fred Stamps (born December 10, 1980) is an American former professional football player. He was a talented slotback, which is a type of wide receiver in football. Fred played most of his career in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He officially retired as a member of the Edmonton Eskimos, a team where he became a star player.

College Career
Fred Stamps played college football for the Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns from 2000 to 2003. He was a very athletic person. Besides football, he also played track and field and baseball during his college years. This shows he was good at many different sports!
Professional Football Journey
Starting in the NFL
After college, Fred Stamps hoped to play in the National Football League (NFL). In 2004, he was not chosen in the main player draft. However, the San Francisco 49ers signed him as an undrafted free agent. This means they signed him even though he wasn't drafted. After leaving the 49ers, Fred spent some time with the Baltimore Ravens and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was part of their practice squads, working hard to improve his skills.
Becoming a Star in the CFL
Fred Stamps then decided to move to the Canadian Football League (CFL). He signed with the Edmonton Eskimos. This is where he truly shined!
Edmonton Eskimos Years
Fred joined the Eskimos in 2006. In the 2007 CFL season, he played in nine games. He missed some games because he had surgery. The next year, in 2008, he played in 14 games. He caught the ball for 751 yards and scored 6 touchdowns.
The 2009 CFL season was a huge year for Fred. He played in all 18 games. He gained an amazing 1,402 receiving yards and scored 8 touchdowns. This made him one of the best receivers in the league! In 2010, Fred got a shoulder injury and missed four games. But he still had a great year, catching for 1,223 yards and 5 touchdowns.
In 2012, even after the Eskimos traded their star quarterback, Fred continued to play well. He finished second in the league for receiving yards with 1,310. He also scored 9 touchdowns. In the 2013 CFL season, Fred Stamps led the entire league in receiving yards. He had 1,259 yards that season, showing he was a top player.
Time with the Montreal Alouettes
On January 16, 2015, Fred Stamps was traded to the Montreal Alouettes. He played for them for one season. He was released by the Alouettes in January 2016.
Retiring as an Eskimo
After a few years away from the game, Fred Stamps made a special decision. He signed a one-day contract with the Edmonton Eskimos. This allowed him to officially retire as a player for the team where he had so much success. It was a way to honor his great career with the Eskimos.
