Frederick Albert Bridge (born December 18, 1841 – died December 29, 1917) was a talented English man who had many jobs. He was a photographer, an organ player, a singer, and a choirmaster. He was known for his skills in both the arts and science.

A Life in Photography

Frederick Albert Bridge was born in a place called Shadwell in London. He loved photography and even had his own professional studio. His studio was located in Hackney, London.

He was a very active member of the photography community. He joined the Photographic Club and helped lead other groups. For example, he was the treasurer for the South London Photographic Society in 1877. Later, in 1888, he became the secretary for the London & Provincial Photographic Association.

Bridge took many interesting pictures. In 1897, he photographed the building of the Central London Railway. This was a big project to create underground tunnels for trains. His photos showed how this amazing engineering work was done.

He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. In 1874, he gave talks called "Gems of English Scenery and Song." These talks used special magic lantern slides to show beautiful pictures. He also wrote articles about photography for different magazines.

Musical Talents

Besides his work in photography, Frederick Bridge was also a very successful musician. He was a conductor, which means he led groups of singers or musicians. He was also a singer himself.

For many years, he worked as the choirmaster at St Martin-in-the-Fields. This is a famous church in London. He also played the organ and led the choir at St Martin, Ludgate. He even conducted another group called the St. John's Choral Society.

From 1872, Bridge started performing in London theaters. He played important roles in musical plays called operettas. These shows were created by famous composers like Offenbach and Gilbert and Sullivan.

Family Life

Frederick Bridge was married twice. His first wife was Elizabeth Stirling, who was also a talented musician. She was an organist and a composer. They got married on May 16, 1863, in Stepney. Elizabeth passed away in 1895.

After Elizabeth died, he married Eliza Mary Perfect Harding in 1896. She helped him with his photography work. Eliza passed away in 1910.

Frederick Albert Bridge died on December 29, 1917. He was on holiday in Bognor when he had a fall. He was buried in Abney Park Cemetery.
