Frederick John Robinson, 1st Earl of Ripon (born November 1, 1782 – died January 28, 1859) was an important British statesman. He served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for a short time, when he was known as Lord Goderich. He was also a member of the Privy Council.

Frederick John Robinson had several different titles throughout his life. These titles showed his growing importance and rank in British society.
Early Life and First Title
He was born as plain Frederick John Robinson in 1782. He kept this name for the first 45 years of his life.
Becoming Viscount Goderich
In 1827, he was given the title of The Viscount Goderich. This happened just before he became Prime Minister. People often referred to him as Lord Goderich during this period.
The Earl of Ripon
Later, in 1833, he received an even higher title. He became The Earl of Ripon. He held this title for the rest of his life until he passed away in 1859.
