Frederick William Gamble was born in Manchester, England, in 1869. He went to Manchester Grammar School for his high school education. After that, he continued his studies at the University of Manchester.

At the University of Manchester, he earned his first degree in 1891. He then received a special scholarship called the Bishop Berkeley Fellowship in 1892. He also studied for a time at Leipzig University in Germany. When he returned to Manchester, he earned his master's degree in 1893.

A Career in Zoology

Frederick Gamble began his teaching career at the University of Manchester in 1893. He started as a junior lecturer and demonstrator in zoology. This meant he taught students and helped them with experiments. He worked his way up, becoming a senior lecturer in 1895. Later, he became the assistant-director of the university's zoology labs. He earned his advanced doctorate degree in 1900.

From 1905 to 1908, he was the Secretary of the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society. This is a group where people discuss science, literature, and other interesting ideas. In 1909, he moved to the University of Birmingham. There, he became the head of the zoology department, a position he held until his death.

Achievements and Recognition
