The Inn at Death Valley: A Historic Stay

The Inn at Death Valley was once known as The Furnace Creek Inn. It was built by the Pacific Coast Borax Company. The Inn first opened its doors on February 1, 1927. It started with just twelve rooms for guests.

The company's president, Richard C. Baker, wanted more people to visit Death Valley. This would help bring money to their Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad. This railroad was first used to ship borax, a mineral.

In the 1930s, the Inn grew bigger. Twenty more rooms were added. A swimming pool and tennis courts were also built. For many years, the Fred Harvey Company managed the resort. Today, the Inn has 66 rooms. It sits on a hillside and is open from October to May each year.

The Ranch at Death Valley: Desert Adventures

The Ranch at Death Valley is another place to stay. It was once called The Furnace Creek Ranch. It is separate from the Inn and is located on the flat valley floor. You can find it right next to the Park's Visitor Center.

This ranch is famous for a world record! It is where the highest temperature recorded on Earth happened. On July 10, 1913, the temperature reached an amazing 56.7 °C (134.1 °F). That's super hot!
