This fancy resort is owned and run by a company called Xanterra Travel Collection. It's built on private land right inside the national park.

The Inn at Death Valley is also part of a group called Historic Hotels of America. This means it's a very old and important hotel that is protected because of its history.

The Inn at Death Valley: A Historic Stay

The Inn at Death Valley was first known as The Furnace Creek Inn. It was built by the Pacific Coast Borax Company. The Inn first opened its doors on February 1, 1927. It started with just twelve rooms for guests.

The president of the Pacific Coast Borax Company, Richard C. Baker, wanted to bring more visitors to Death Valley. This would help make more money for the Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad. This railroad was originally built by Francis Marion Smith to ship a mineral called borax. But it needed new ways to earn money.

In the 1930s, the Inn grew bigger. Twenty more rooms were added. A swimming pool and tennis courts were also built. For many years, a company called the Fred Harvey Company managed the resort. Today, the Inn has 66 rooms. It is located on a hillside and is open from October through May.

The Ranch at Death Valley: Fun in the Sun

The Ranch at Death Valley is a different place to stay from the Inn. It used to be called The Furnace Creek Ranch. It is located on the flat valley floor. It is also right next to the Park's Visitor Center. 36°27′23″N 116°52′07″W / 36.45639°N 116.86861°W / 36.45639; -116.86861

The Ranch is famous for a world record. It is where the highest temperature recorded on Earth happened. On July 10, 1913, the temperature reached 56.7 degrees Celsius (134.1 degrees Fahrenheit). That's super hot!
