The Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS) was a big organization that managed many different roller sports around the world. Its name means "International Federation of Roller Sports." It looked after sports like skateboarding, rink hockey, inline hockey, and artistic roller skating.

FIRS started in April 1924 in Montreux, Switzerland. Two Swiss sportsmen, Fred Renkewitz and Otto Myer, created it. They had strong connections to the International Olympic Committee.

FIRS brought together over 100 national groups from all over the world. These groups were also connected to the International Skating Union.

In September 2017, FIRS decided to join with the International Skateboarding Federation. They formed a new organization called World Skate. Since 2017, World Skate has organized the World Roller Games. These games include all the roller sports that World Skate manages.

What FIRS Did

FIRS worked to help roller sports grow and become more popular everywhere. Its main jobs included:

  • Making rules and managing the sports.
  • Organizing big international competitions.
  • Helping roller sports develop around the world.
  • Promoting these exciting sports to more people.

Many important sports groups recognized FIRS's authority. These included:

  • The International Olympic Committee (IOC)
  • The General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF)
  • The International World Games Association (IWGA)
  • The Pan American Sports Organization (PASO)

FIRS also recognized several groups that managed roller sports on different continents:

  • Africa: African Confederation of Sports of Roller Skating (ACSRS)
  • Europe: Confédération Européenne de Roller Skating (CERS)
  • Asia: Confederation of Asia Roller Sports (CARS)
  • Oceania: Oceania Confederation of Roller Sports (OCRS)
  • The Americas: Confederación Panamericana de Roller Sports (CPRS)

Each of these continental groups then worked with many national sports organizations. Skating is known as a great way to exercise. It is very popular all over the world. Experts believe that more than 40 million people regularly enjoy recreational skating.

  • Inline Freestyle Skating: Also known as Slalom, this involves doing tricks and moves around cones. There were 10 World Championships from 2007 to 2016.
