Gérard Lamy (born May 2, 1919 – died October 26, 2016) was a Canadian politician. He was a member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of Canada from 1962 to 1963. This means he was elected to represent people in Canada's main law-making body.
During his time in Parliament, he represented the area of Saint-Maurice—Laflèche in Quebec. He was part of the Social Credit Party. Before becoming a politician, Mr. Lamy worked as a contractor. He was born in Shawinigan, Quebec.
A Career in Politics
Gérard Lamy was elected to Parliament only once. This happened in the 1962 Canadian federal election. He won against the person who held the seat before him, Joseph-Adolphe Richard, who was from the Liberal Party.
Mr. Lamy was one of 26 Social Credit MPs from Quebec elected that year. This was a big moment for the Social Credit Party.
The 1963 Election
In the next election, held in 1963, Mr. Lamy lost his seat. This was quite a surprise to many. The person who beat him was Jean Chrétien, a Liberal. Jean Chrétien later became the Prime Minister of Canada.
Later Elections
After losing in 1963, Mr. Lamy tried to get elected two more times. In 1970, he ran in a Quebec provincial election. He was part of the Ralliement créditiste du Québec party, but he did not win.
He tried again in the 1979 federal election. This time, he ran with the Progressive Conservative Party. However, he lost this election too. After 1979, Gérard Lamy did not run for election again. He passed away in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, on October 26, 2016.
