Günter Nooke (born on January 21, 1959) is a German politician. He is a member of the CDU party. Before becoming a politician, he was active in the civil rights movement.

Early Life and Education
Günter Nooke was born in Forst (Lausitz), a small town in Germany. This town is located in the region of Brandenburg. He grew up in East Germany, which was a communist country at the time. His hometown was about 150 kilometers (90 miles) southeast of Berlin, close to the Polish border.
He went to school in Forst and Cottbus. Later, he studied physics at the University of Leipzig from 1980 to 1985. After finishing his studies, Nooke worked as a research assistant. From 1985 to 1990, he was a head of section at an industrial health office in Cottbus.
Today, he works as the Director of International Affairs at Worldwide Hospitals (WWH). This company helps improve medical care around the world. Günter Nooke is married to Maria Nooke, who is a sociologist. They have three children.
Political Journey
Günter Nooke became involved in politics in 1987. He joined a church group that was against the government. In 1989, he became part of the growing movement for democracy. This movement helped lead to the fall of the Berlin Wall.
After East Germany's first democratic election, he became a member of the People's Chamber. He represented a group called Alliance 90.
Roles in Parliament
From 1990 to 1994, Nooke was a member of the parliament in the state of Brandenburg. He was also the leader of the Alliance 90 group there. In 1996, he joined the CDU party. Many other civil rights activists joined with him.
From 1998 to 2005, Günter Nooke was a member of the German national parliament, called the Bundestag. He served as a deputy chairman for his party's group from 2000 to 2002. From 2002 to 2005, he was the spokesperson for cultural and media affairs.
Government Positions
On March 8, 2006, Nooke was given an important job. He was named the Federal Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid. He held this position in the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel. He left this role in 2010.
Since April 2010, Nooke has been a special representative for the German Chancellor. He focuses on Africa for the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). He has worked under different ministers in this role.
Public Discussions
In 2018, some of Günter Nooke's comments in an interview caused a lot of discussion. His ideas about history and development were criticized by many people. Some found his suggestions about how African countries should manage their land to be controversial. These comments led to a public debate.

Günter Nooke has also been involved in several other organizations:
