Gabriel Delgado-López (born April 18, 1958 – died March 22, 2020), known as Gabi Delgado, was a talented musician. He was a composer, writer of song lyrics, and producer. People mostly knew him as the singer and co-founder of the German electronic band Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, also called D.A.F. He started this band with Robert Görl.

Life and Music Career

Early Life and Moving to Germany

Gabi grew up in Córdoba, Spain. In 1966, his family moved to Germany. They lived in several German cities like Remscheid, Wuppertal, Dortmund, and Düsseldorf.

Forming D.A.F. and Solo Work

He started the band D.A.F. with Robert Görl in 1978. In 1980, Gabi moved to London. He lived there until D.A.F. broke up for the first time in 1984. After that, he moved to Zürich. He released a solo album called Mistress. This album did not sell well in Germany. However, it was very popular in Japan, reaching the top 20. Later, he joined Robert Görl again. They recorded the D.A.F. album 1st Step to Heaven in 1986.

Becoming a DJ and Later Projects

In 1986, Gabi moved to Berlin. There, he became a DJ and organized house parties. He helped organize the very first house music party in Germany. He also started music labels with Saba Komossa. These labels were called Delkom Club Control, BMWW, and Sunday Morning Berlin.

In 2003, Delgado reunited with Görl again. They made another D.A.F. album. It was called Fünfzehn neue D.A.F-Lieder, which means Fifteen New D.A.F. Songs.

Gabi's brother, Eduardo Delgado-López, is a bass player.

Passing Away

Gabi Delgado-López passed away on March 22, 2020. He was 61 years old. He died from a heart attack. There are different ideas about where he died. Some sources say he died in a hospital in Portugal. Others say he died in his hometown of Córdoba, Spain.
