José Gabriel de Souza Diniz (born October 18, 1990 – died May 27, 2019), known as Gabriel Diniz, was a popular singer and songwriter from Brazil. He was famous for his lively music and energetic performances.
Gabriel Diniz's Music Career
Gabriel Diniz was born in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. He released three music albums during his career. In 2017, he worked with another singer, Wesley Safadão, on a song called "Acabou Acabou".
Gabriel Diniz became very famous across Brazil with his song "Jenifer". This song was played the most on the radio and on music apps in Brazil. It became the biggest hit song of the summer of 2019.
Even though he was born in Campo Grande, Gabriel Diniz grew up in João Pessoa, in Paraíba. This city is in the northeast part of Brazil. He started his music journey by singing at parties while he was studying electrical engineering in college.
He first started a band with his friends. This group caught the attention of music managers in the city. Gabriel Diniz sang with bands like Campim com Mel and Cavaleiros do Forró. Later, he joined his main band, Forró na Farra, from 2010 to 2011.
In 2013, he changed his band's name to his own name: Gabriel Diniz. He brought new ideas to Brazilian music by mixing two popular styles from Brazil's northeast region: Forró and swingueira (also known as pagode baiano). He made the percussion instruments stand out in his songs.
Gabriel Diniz's Passing
On May 27, 2019, Gabriel Diniz passed away in a plane crash. This happened after he had performed a concert in Sergipe, in a city called Estância, Brazil. He was on his way to surprise his girlfriend for her birthday party. The aircraft was a Piper PA-28 Cherokee that was made in 1974.
