Gabriel Ellison (born in 1930 – died on July 18, 2017) was a talented Zambian artist. She is most famous for helping to design the national flag of Zambia. She also created many of Zambia's postage stamps from the 1960s to the 1980s. During this time, she led the Graphic Arts section at the Ministry of Information.

About Her Life and Art

Gabriel Ellison was born in Lusaka, which is the capital city of Zambia. Back then, Zambia was known as Northern Rhodesia.

Ellison was a very versatile artist. She worked with many different art materials. These included oil paints, acrylics, watercolors, and tempera. She also created three-dimensional art, like sculptures. For her sculptures, she used materials such as resin bronze and terracotta clay.

Her amazing work earned her special recognition. She was a fellow member of important art groups like the Royal Society of Arts in Britain. Both the British and Zambian Governments honored her for her contributions to the arts. The British Government gave her the MBE award. The Zambian Government awarded her the Grand Officer of Distinguished Service.

Gabriel Ellison passed away on July 18, 2017, at the age of 87.
