Early Life and Education
Gabriela von Habsburg was born in Luxembourg. She is the fourth child of Otto von Habsburg and Regina von Sachsen-Meiningen. Her father was the head of the important House of Habsburg-Lorraine family.
She grew up in Pöcking, Bavaria, Germany. Her family was not allowed to live in Austria at that time. Because of this, she feels very connected to Europe as a whole. She believes her family's history influenced her a lot.
After finishing school in 1976, Gabriela studied philosophy for two years. She attended the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. From 1978 to 1982, she studied art. She learned from famous artists like Robert Jacobsen and Eduardo Paolozzi at the Munich Academy of Arts.
Art and Diplomacy Career
Since 2001, Gabriela von Habsburg has been an art professor. She teaches at the Academy of Arts in Tbilisi, Georgia. She also taught at the Summer Academy of Arts in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany, until 2005. She found her students in Georgia very creative and inspiring. She was given Georgian citizenship during this time. She even has a vineyard in Georgia that produces wine.

She believed that Georgia's history was very important to European culture. She worked to help Georgia join the European Market. She left her ambassador role in January 2013.
