The Creek's Journey
Gabriels Creek begins its journey in a pond. This pond is located about 0.5 miles (0.8 kilometers) east of a town called Asheboro, North Carolina. From there, the creek flows generally towards the northeast. It continues its path until it reaches and joins the Deep River. The spot where it meets the Deep River is about 0.5 miles (0.8 kilometers) west of Cedar Falls, North Carolina.
Understanding the Watershed
A "watershed" is an area of land where all the water drains into a common stream, river, or lake. The Gabriels Creek watershed covers an area of about 6.89 square miles (17.8 square kilometers). This area receives a good amount of rain each year, about 46.9 inches (119 centimeters). A large part of this watershed, about 60%, is covered by forests. These forests are very important for keeping the water clean and providing homes for wildlife.
