Gael Mulhall-Martin was born in Melbourne, Australia. Her father, Ken Mulhall, was a well-known Australian rules footballer. He played for the St Kilda Football Club.
Olympic Success
Gael made history at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, USA. She won a bronze medal in the women's shot put event. This made her the very first Australian, male or female, to win an Olympic medal in a throwing sport.
Commonwealth Games Achievements
Gael also competed in four Commonwealth Games in a row, starting in 1974. She had amazing success at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. There, she won two gold medals: one for shot put and another for discus.
Her coach, Franz Stampfl, helped her achieve great things. Throughout her career, Gael won a total of 20 senior Australian national championships.
Gael Martin's Powerlifting Career
