Galt is a fascinating ghost town located in Rice County, Kansas, United States. A ghost town is a place where people used to live and work, but now almost no one lives there anymore. Galt was once found near the Little Arkansas River. It was about 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Geneseo. It was also around 14 miles (23 km) northeast of Lyons.

The Story of Galt

Galt was a small community that existed a long time ago. Around the year 1910, Galt had a general store. Only about 15 people called Galt home at that time.

Galt and the Railroad

Galt was an important stop for trains. It was a "shipping point" on the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe railroad. This means that goods and products were loaded onto trains here. They were then sent to other places.

Why Galt Became a Ghost Town

The post office in Galt closed in 1911. This was a big sign that the town was shrinking. Today, you won't find any buildings left in Galt. It has truly become a ghost town, with only its history remaining.
